Hipotels Hipocampo - Adults Only

It felt more like a nursing home than a hotel during our stay, with mostly elderly guests from Germany. Calling the place “Adults Only” doesn’t seem to mean it’s for young adults. And if it’s really adults-only, why can’t you smoke even on the balcony? Is it a hospital for the elderly? Breakfast had just one omelette pan for the whole hotel, so be ready to wait 20 minutes for eggs. Dinner was very weak and unimpressive. We’d asked for cleaning between 10:30 and 11:30, but staff banged on our door at 9:00. A bad experience. We won’t return, and definitely don’t recommend it to young adults looking for a pleasant holiday.

The breakfast was a real treat, with different choices each morning and very good quality food, coffee and juices. The hotel was good and what I expected from a beach hotel, though the rooms are a bit dated. At the daily rate, I think basic things like bottled water and replenished tea and coffee should be included, rather than just provided as a welcome gift. Similar hotels at this price include them. The area is somewhat touristy, but the beach is very nice and clean, and there are plenty of restaurants nearby.

The hotel was peaceful and very clean, with great cleaning staff, though it would be nice if they knocked before entering the room. Reception staff were fantastic, warm and welcoming, and breakfast was good. There were always plenty of sunbeds, and the upper-floor views were lovely. The location is great, and realistically you never need to be in the hotel. On the downside, it catered heavily to German guests, who were the vast majority: there was one English TV channel and more than 40 German ones. The pool staff felt quite cold, and it would be nice if they came around to take drink orders now and then. The walls were very thin, which made sleeping difficult. Parking was impossible to find, though that’s not really the hotel’s fault. There were no food options after 2 p.m., when even basic sandwiches would have helped. And there are only two lifts for the whole hotel, an obvious design issue in an older building. We enjoyed our stay, but would probably pick somewhere else next time, since the same price can get a better experience.

The service was incredible. We had an early flight, and the dining hall opened at 5 a.m. so they could give us food before we left. Thanks to all the staff for such a pleasant stay. The hotel is only a few feet from the beach, and our room was clean and very nice. The walls were a little thin, but oh well.
