Hostel Monte Do Gozo

The staff were friendly and easy to talk to, which made check-in and my short stay pleasant. The room was clean, though there was a lingering smell like a gym bathroom throughout the buildings. It wasn’t unbearable, but it did affect my comfort. Wi-Fi only worked at reception and in the dining hall, not in the rooms, which was inconvenient. Given how many pilgrims this place has hosted, some wear and tear is understandable. It’s a practical place with helpful staff, just don’t expect luxury.

I booked everything for my Camino ahead of time, but had to cancel and go home early because of an injury. They refused a refund, citing their “strict policies.” Terrible establishment. Don’t stay here or do business with them. Those policies can ruin your experience. It’s also a full hour’s walk from the cathedral. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

There’s an outdoor restaurant on site, a public pool, great showers, and rooms were available. But there’s no Wi-Fi in the rooms, and town is a 4km walk away. There are no taxis, Uber, or Lyft. You can take a bus, but you’ll need to walk 20 minutes to and from it.

After a long, exhausting day, we had just five minutes left before the pool closed. We ran over hoping for a quick dip, then planned to head back to our rooms. A worker met us there and was very unfriendly and aggressive, almost yelling in Spanish that we couldn’t even come near the pool. I asked if we could jump in once and go back, but he wouldn’t consider it. The rooms and reception service were good, but that man at the pool spoiled the stay for us.
