Hotel Gastronómico Arco de Mazarelos

We really enjoyed the atmosphere here, and the balcony views were lively and outstanding. Check-in was easy and the service was great. There’s no AC in the rooms, but we were still comfortable. Since it’s above the restaurant, it can be noisy, so it probably won’t suit someone who needs silence to sleep. We liked the sound and energy, though!

The staff are kind, but cleanliness was a real problem for us. The bed cushions had white and brown stains, and the sheets did too. We stayed in the largest room a year ago and still had hygiene issues there, though the noise wasn’t a problem in that room. This time we chose a small room and could hear everything in the hall, even whispering. It was so noisy that we didn’t sleep. The keypads for the room doors are very loud, which adds to the noise and seems unnecessary. I also won’t book again because of the condition of the beds, cushions, sheets, and air vents. Only one outlet worked, so I couldn’t charge my phone, and two lights were damaged.

I come back to this cute hotel after every camino. The restaurant food is fantastic, and the service and check-in are great. There’s no AC, but I still slept comfortably and it didn’t bother me.

At Hotel Gastronómico Arco de Mazarelos, €150 a night gets you a toilet in full view of pilgrims dining across the street. The bed’s headboard isn’t fixed to the frame or wall, it’s just wedged between them. In peak summer the stone building feels clammy and bare, with no air conditioning. There are two heaters, which make sense for winter, but no AC. The shower had good pressure and temperature, though the bidet partly blocks the way out. On the stairs, the carpet is threadbare, old, and dirty, and it leaves the hotel smelling unpleasant. “Gastronómico” refers to the tapas bar downstairs, but there’s no breakfast. We tried the bar, but the service was slow and grudging, and the menu was handed to us with such disregard that we left to eat elsewhere. The same key opens both the hotel’s front door and your room.
