Hotel Garcas

I stayed here while walking the Camino. It had what I needed for a day or two and did the job. The cafe food was alright.

I started at Garcas on September 21 and stayed for a few days. Thank you to Oscar, who was working at reception and helped me organize my Camino walk. I’m very grateful for his contribution; it made a significant difference.

The ground-floor restaurant serves pizza and basic dishes. Its €14 menu of the day was satisfying in both taste and portion size. The room was clean and nice, with a comfortable bed, and it’s close to the airport. Take the 6A bus via Lavacolla and get off less than five minutes later to reach the hotel.

My room was clean and comfortable after the first day, which I appreciated, but my stay was badly affected when I came back and found my clothes and other belongings missing. I was there for two nights, so it was alarming to see my things removed without explanation. When I told reception, they said the cleaning staff “may have” taken them by mistake. I found that speculative response disappointing and worrying, and expected more reassurance and action about the security of guests’ belongings. I was at Garcas Hotel in Santiago de Compostela for a two-day conference. The hotel had pleasant aspects, but this incident left a negative mark on my stay.
