Pensión Dorotea

There isn't much nearby besides a couple of bars and cafes, though the airport is close. The room was clean, but the bed was far too soft for me. The shower was scalding hot and I couldn't turn it down, and it had a handheld rubber hose. The woman in charge is very no-nonsense, like the chef in that Seinfeld episode. It was okay, but we'd had much better places on our walk.

We got in around midnight after our flight was delayed, and getting access was no problem. For a cheap airport hotel, it was hard to ask for more. The family room had sturdy, quirky bunks with good mattresses, and enough space for four; we all slept comfortably. It's basic and there's no breakfast, but there are vending machines by the entrance, two good restaurants next door, and a shop in the village. The bus to Santiago and up to the airport was also good and inexpensive, which worked for picking up our hire car.

The room was clean and the woman who served us was nice. It was warm in the room, but manageable. The noise was the real issue. You could hear everything at night, though some of that may have been other guests and not something the owner can control. The café or whatever is downstairs was worse. At 7:00 on a Sunday, someone was dragging chairs around loudly, and at 07:30 they were talking loudly outside while we had all the windows open because of the heat. Maybe my room was directly above it, but that's much too early. They should be more considerate of the hotel.

There are barely any facilities, just a vending machine, and you have to climb two flights of stairs. The walls are so thin I could hear the person next door snoring all night. Booking.com listed a balcony, but we only had a window overlooking a car park or scrap yard. The green light above the door was so bright that it kept me awake.
