Las Casitas de Santillana I 3

The accommodation itself is great, but I had a very disappointing experience with the payment through Expedia and Las Casitas del Santillana. I booked and paid in advance through Expedia, then the amount was charged to my card again on site. I was told they would arrange a refund for the duplicate payment, but I still haven't received it. After I sent messages and emails without a response, Las Casitas eventually contacted me with an apology and a proposed solution. Nothing came of it, though. Months later, my emails were still being ignored, and I still have no solution or my money back. I'm absolutely disappointed by how this has been handled.

We found it acceptable for a few days in the area. The house has a garage, and the surroundings are quiet. It's a bit away from the center of Santillana del Mar, but there's a handy path into town if you'd rather walk than drive. For the price, though, we expected more thoughtful details and better value. A decent stay, with things that could be improved.

The house itself was nice, and the mattress was comfortable, though the pillow was too soft for my taste. Still, we were disappointed by several things. The floor could have been swept before guests arrived, and there was a strong diesel smell. We pointed out a huge puddle in the garage, but they kept saying it was water, even though it was pink. The barbecue sign said to let them know if we wanted to use it, but we never got a reply. Only around six or seven of the roughly 50 bulbs in that area worked. There were lots of ants. That's understandable in a country house, but it would have helped to have insecticide or repellent available. The refrigerator was so loud it felt like there was a compressor running inside the house, and I don't know how long it will last. Apart from that, things were fine.
