Julia and Teresa were so kind, even going out of their way to get a jacket back to us at a later stop on the Camino after we left it behind. My mother and I had a fantastic stay at Casa Caxigueiro. The setting is absolutely beautiful, and our room was comfortable with great beds. Dinner and breakfast were excellent, with lovely food from the garden. I hope we get to come back soon.

The food was homemade and really good, and Teresa (sp?) and Julia were wonderful hosts. We had such a great stay. The place is just outside Sarria, about a five-minute walk from the Camino, and easily one of the coolest places I've stayed, run by two of the nicest people you'll meet. The main part dates to the 12th century, with the “New” section built in 1757. The rooms were surprisingly spacious and quiet. The bed and pillows weren't super soft, but they were comfortable, and all three of us slept well, including the two friends in another room.

Teresa grew up in this house, then inherited it and turned it into a lovely place for travelers. She's the owner, greeter, sommelier, and chef, with some great helpers. Our corner room was fantastic, with modern touches where needed, like the bathroom, while the rest stayed true to the house's past. We stayed while hiking the Camino and found this hidden gem just off the main road superb. The family has owned it since the 11th century, around 900 years, and it was enlarged in the 1700s.

The owners were so attentive, and breakfast was good. A lovely, relaxing place with history everywhere.

My father and I stayed here while walking the Camino to celebrate his 60th birthday. I told him we should return when I turn 60, this time with my future son, and I hope the house is still welcoming guests then. It means a lot to us. The owner was the friendliest person I've ever met in all my hotel stays. The house is full of history, and the road through this quiet farming village is scenic. The food is great value, with an affordable three-course meal. Downstairs, there's a waterway that was probably built in medieval times, covered by glass. It made me feel as if I were in a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Melide has plenty of good hotels, so you might wonder if it's worth the extra walk to stay here, but for us it really was, especially for making special memories with family and loved ones.
