The photos make this hotel look amazing, and it is lovely to look at. The location, the building, the room decor and furnishings, and the evening atmosphere were all highlights. Still, the stay fell short of what I expected, and I wouldn’t return. We had a junior suite, where the wet-room style shower sent water out of the bathroom and into the vestibule and sink area the first time we used it. The skirting board between the doors was water damaged, so this had clearly happened before. The complimentary refreshments were sparse for a suite: two single savoury biscuits, tea, Nespresso, and water. Everything else cost extra, which felt stingy. Service was uneven. Some staff were great, but the front desks didn’t seem to have anyone clearly in charge, and people were often behind a screen. I awkwardly waited before interrupting someone just to check out. I’d also mentioned in my booking that I was celebrating my birthday, but the hotel didn’t acknowledge it at all. That was disappointing, especially as a Barcelona hotel gave me a lovely complimentary gift last year. I don’t expect anything grand, but getting no recognition whatsoever was unpleasant. The stylish lounge areas needed heating. On a day with bad weather, when I was hoping to sit there with a book, a large local party had filled them with drinks and cigarette smoke. I really wanted to love this place, but the guest experience just wasn’t what I’d hoped for.

What made the hotel feel special was the service. Over our five days, staff from housekeeping, F&B, reception, and the bell desk were always warm and happy to help, no matter how small the request. They asked about our day and made it lovely to come “home” after exploring. General Manager Cristina clearly sets the standard. As elite Bonvoy members, we were recognized and given our benefits. The hotel is beautifully run, and the staff know how to look after guests. The suite was thoughtfully furnished and updated with all the modern conveniences you’d expect from a five-star place. The feel is rustic and full of character rather than slick and glamorous. I loved the baskets of sweet oranges in the corridors, available to eat anytime. The charming rooms look into courtyards across three floors, and there’s a small pool and spa on the top floor. They’d be ideal after a hot summer day out, though it was too cool for us to try them. We knew it would be a special stay as soon as we entered the orange tree courtyard, surrounded by the scent of orange blossoms. I remembered visiting about 18 years ago, and this time was even better. We were greeted with big smiles, and the staff took care of our luggage right away. It felt like being welcomed into someone’s home. The restaurant Azahar is excellent, as I reviewed separately, and breakfast there each day was a treat, with a full cold buffet and hot dishes and eggs available to order à la carte.

The staff are what I remember most fondly. The entrance team, reception, and housekeeping were warm, professional, and genuinely caring, though the restaurant staff felt a little less welcoming. The hotel itself is a small boutique property, but its courtyard and architecture have a peaceful, distinctive feel that evokes Andalusia during the Islamic period. It sits in Seville’s historic old town, and valet parking is available for €26 a day. When we called for our car, it was brought around and parked professionally, a nice sign of the management’s attention to service. We had a memorable stay in a place with real historic character.

Nieves in the Hotel Restaurant made the visit far more memorable than I expected. I’d picked the hotel simply because it was nearby and had good reviews, then ended up spending the day at the pool. It was a bit chilly, but sunny. After that I had the menu del dia at the restaurant, and the food was so good I nearly stayed longer. They were also kind about letting me work, shared the wifi straight away, and welcomed day guests. Thanks so much to everyone.

Our room was clean, breakfast was great, and extras like drinks and room service were reasonably priced. Carlos was especially helpful throughout. We arrived during Semana Santa without realizing it, with a procession starting right outside the hotel. The staff made check-in easy despite the surprise, and it was quite an experience to see the event. The hotel is in the middle of Seville’s historic quarter.
