Hostal Alcobia

I liked the location, the ensuite for the price, and the cleaner’s effort. The room was clean, with fresh, crisp towels and bedding, and I noticed the cleaner even working under the bed. It was a small, dated room, though, and the shower barely worked apart from its side spray. The water was very hot the first night when I showered late. The mattress and pillow were comfortable. Aircon was controlled by a wall switch, apparently fixed at 22 degrees, and blew warm air when I tried it after walking with my luggage. I couldn’t find a remote, though I saw one in another room during a turnover. Noise from the corridor came through under the door, but I didn’t hear other guests; outside I only noticed police cars and an ambulance. I was in room 202. It’s about a 15-minute walk from the bus station and airport bus. An Uber back to the airport cost under €13, compared with €6 each for the bus. From the alley, the street leads towards several main sights, and the next major junction starts the Santa Cruz area, with plenty of tapas bars. The location works well. The online check-in asked for a passport copy, which I’ve done before. After a second request, I asked if there was a problem with my submission and got no reply. The day before arrival I was asked to register again, so I tried, but the system said my passport had already been used. I assumed the first submission had worked. At the airport I sent a message, then later got a WhatsApp voice message asking me to call when I reached the Hostal for the key-box code. There seemed to be a camera there, as they wanted to make sure I closed the box after taking my key. I arrived after 5; someone seemed to be in the small office at the bottom of the stairs, though they kept their head down. Clear check-in instructions and a personal reply would have saved me worry about getting into my room. The signs asking guests to keep quiet at night were helpful.
