Puerta de los Palos

This is one of the cathedral's many gates, and each one seems lovelier than the last. Puerta de Palos is closest to the bell tower, the Giralda, and faces Plaza Virgen de los Reyes, with its well-known lantern fountain. From around here, the views for photos are lovely, with the gate in the background. Beside it is the outside wall of the Chapel of the Kings. Its curved surface has a row of coats of arms for kings and other important people tied to the city and cathedral's history. They're worth a closer look. The name Puerta de Palos comes from the wood stored here while the cathedral was being built, and the tympanum holds Miguel Perrin's sculpture of the Adoration of the Magi. After taking in the outside, wander around the rest of the magnificent cathedral, then find a seat for an ice cream or a drink and take it all in.

This is a cathedral entrance and the one nearest the route up the Giralda. Just inside, there's a little chapel to the left, with the entrance to the Giralda on the right.
