Puerta Del Leon

The Alcazar's interior and vast gardens were beautiful. We were enjoying the visit, but after about an hour staff began hurrying us out, saying the place was closing. We hadn't been warned beforehand, and it was a shame to miss so much.

The peaceful courtyards and detailed architecture give this historic site a real Andalusian feel, and there are wonderful photo spots. It's a lovely way into the Royal Alcázar. It gets busy at peak times, so early morning seems like the best time to come.

The palace is spacious and beautiful, and the extensive gardens are worth a wander. Peacocks are all over the gardens and aren't afraid of people. The rooms feel rather bare, though, since there are no furnishings like tapestries or furniture. We bought tickets online but didn't print them, which was a mistake. Without internet, we had to go back to the hotel so they could download onto our phone. We returned and then had internet access. Some people arriving late were turned away, so be on time for a timed entry. There's a shop where you can get coffee or a beer and sit for a bit of people-watching. Definitely worth visiting in Seville.

I came through in the afternoon of 3 March 2026 on my way into the palace. The line was very long, but once security began admitting people it moved along fairly quickly. Book tickets ahead, especially for the sections with free entry.
