El Doncel Hotel Restaurante

For a taste of authentic Spanish cooking off the radar, this is the place. The food is honest and delicious, and it's one of my favorite places in the world.

The staff speak English if you need help, and they kindly brought me an English menu without me having to ask. The food was Michelin-quality, made from the best fresh produce and handled with skill and respect by the chef and waiters. A great experience. We'd recommend it to anyone within 100km of Siguenza.

We chose à la carte and shared starters and mains instead of the degustation menu, only because I wasn't sure I could manage it, not because I didn't want to. Every plate looked lovely, but the taste was the best part. The trout tartare was a shared favorite, though the ravioli, meatballs, and lamb were all excellent too, and the dessert was delicate without being too heavy. The wine list is great, and their reasonably priced recommendation worked really well. Service was professional and friendly, and the food deserved its awards without any of the pretension you might expect. Very good value. If you're in Sigüenza, just go.

After hiking all morning, we stopped in for lunch, sweaty and dirty, and the staff still treated us like royalty. They offered to split the entrees so we could both try some of each. We had roasted butternut squash soup with prawns and a plate of ravioli, and both were exquisite. We highly recommend the restaurant.
