Sunwing Resort And Spa Cala Bona

This was our second stay at Sunwing Cala Bona Seafront resort, and it's a perfect family spot for small children. There's a nice pool with lifeguards, a playground, assisted activities for kids, evening entertainment for the whole family, buffet servings, a pool bar, restaurant, and small shop. Housekeeping is excellent and helpful, and the front desk staff are helpful and knowledgeable. The resort is at the edge of Cala Bona, a short way from the harbor and seafront walkway, which goes all the way to the end of Cala Millor. Cala Bona is quiet and clean, with lots of tourist shops and restaurants but only a small sandy beach. Cala Millor is busier and has similar tourist options, plus a much larger beach.

A great fit for families.

Our daughter has celiac disease, and traveling as a family on a budget can make it hard to find a hotel that understands the diet. This hotel was great with both gluten-free food and fantastic vegetarian meals. In the restaurant, Karin, who speaks Swedish, was the hotel's special diet ambassador along with Ali and Noelia. Karin explained what our daughter could and couldn't eat. It's not always easy for a child to be understood, or to understand staff abroad, so having someone who spoke Swedish meant a lot. She was also cheerful and friendly every time we came to eat. Our daughter could ask for gluten-free pasta, pizza, and desserts or cakes that weren't on the buffet or in the special diet area. As a vegetarian, I had lovely food prepared by the chef every day. I didn't get his name, and he probably only speaks Spanish, but I'd like to say a big thank you to him! Sandra at reception had a friend with children who had celiac disease. When we came down to celebrate my partner's 40th birthday, I was worried about finding a cake. Sandra suggested Mercadona a few kilometers away, where we found a great gluten-free cake and enjoyed it later on the balcony. She also gave us tips on gluten-free food and what to see in Palma, and helped with car rental. Goyo, the restaurant manager, made sure the food suited our preferences and greeted us warmly at every meal. His commitment and energy took a lot of stress and worry off us, and he handled the dietary needs really well. Thank you so much, Goyo! Every staff member we dealt with was very kind. The hotel itself could use a little love here and there. When we arrived, the lights in all the rooms weren't working, but they fixed them right away after we mentioned it. The room AC was off, and when we turned it on there was a huge cloud of dust. That didn't affect our otherwise very positive stay, since the rest of the service was top-notch, but it would be good to have it cleaned for anyone with allergies. There's a Mini-Market at the hotel for essentials, and the city center, with lots of grocery stores and restaurants, is a few minutes' walk away. We had inclusive rather than all-inclusive, so 2 lunches and 2 dinners weren't included. We walked along the beach promenade and ate those meals at restaurants offering gluten-free food. They knew exactly how to handle gluten-free meals, so we felt safe, and our daughter was very happy with what she ate. From all of us, a big thank you. I can highly recommend this hotel! PS. There wasn't anything to complain about with the hotel itself, it was what I expected. The food was another matter: about 90% of it was inedible and the ingredients seemed as bad as they could be. So I don't think anyone should criticize the “cooks”.
