Villa Son Sard

Our 55 guests had a fantastic wedding celebration at this villa, and we're already planning to return soon. The owner, Peere, helped whenever we needed it and even took away rubbish. The sprinklers were switched off and the pool lights stayed on to suit our plans. We had a DJ, a huge sound system, a saxophone player and caterers, with a completely different setup and a cocktail bar, and didn't have a single issue. Everything was made easy from the start: communication was great, we were allowed an early check-in and late check-out, and the owner helped with all our wedding arrangements. PLEASE READ if you're booking this villa for an event, especially a wedding. 0 stars. We booked over a year ahead for our wedding after-party. Our wedding planner and the owner had agreed we could use the villa until 2 a.m. We were fine with moving the music indoors at midnight because of the island restrictions. But at 11:30 p.m. during our wedding, the owner showed up looking angry and sketchy and told us the music had to stop and the party had to end at midnight. We'd already paid for the bar, DJ and transport until 2 a.m. We tried to explain the agreement, and our planner did too, but he wouldn't listen and kept shouting, “no music, no music.” He said police had come three weeks earlier and told him there could be no loud music. If we'd known that, we could have looked for another place or at least been prepared. He seemed more worried about a 6,000 euro fine. Why rent the house for parties and weddings if you're worried about being fined? After an hour of arguing, our wedding had been completely spoiled, guests were leaving and the bride was upset. Then the owner helped himself to OUR bar, made inappropriate comments to some of the women there, and put the music back on himself. When one of the men challenged him about his comments, he left. I can't understand why he'd make such a scene on the most important day of our lives and then turn the music back on after a few drinks. The next day, he texted to apologize for the misunderstanding and said I should understand. There was no misunderstanding. He ruined our wedding, and no apology can fix that. The owner says he doesn't live there, but he lives in the small place by the driveway and is always watching or coming over. At 14,000 euros a week, I don't expect the owner to keep turning up. The bedrooms and bathrooms are also very old-fashioned.

The grounds and pool are beautiful, but the rest was a shame. The house wasn't clean: showers were clogged, dirty dishes were left in the kitchen, and the floor and other areas hadn't been properly cleaned. The room maids were very unfriendly. We arrived before check-in as agreed so we could set things up in the garden. While “cleaning” the terrace, they got our things wet and shouted at us instead of speaking normally. For our event, the house manager forgot to switch off the sprinklers, soaking guests, decorations and food. The police came shortly after midnight over the music, even though the owner advertises that there are no music limits. The outdoor lights didn't stay on long enough, and the electricity kept going off. We couldn't reach anyone to fix these problems. We paid a €1,000 event fee and felt nothing was done for it. The planners and caterers can confirm what happened, but the house manager and owner won't offer compensation for the damage. They claim I agreed at check-in to leave the sprinklers on, apparently because everyone would go to bed at 1 a.m. That makes no sense when decorations and music equipment were outside. Their behaviour and arguments are absolutely crazy.

The villa wasn't especially clean, and the owners and staff were unfriendly. We had a very bad experience using the place for an event, so I can't recommend it for that purpose. If I could, I'd give it zero stars.
