Starbal Villa

Paloma went above and beyond when we had to leave early for our flight. The night before, they brought a full breakfast to our room: fresh bread, freshly squeezed juice, yogurt parfaits, and churizo and cheese. The location is perfect and peaceful, with a nice pool. The room was comfortable and clean, and the staff were always ready to help.

The villa staff were very friendly and helped make the stay bearable. Breakfast was good, but there was no variety; we had the same thing for all 13 days. What I disliked was being misled by the owner and by the description in the Booking.com listing. We had already paid over 2400Euros for 13 nights before receiving the reservation details that said the bathroom was shared. I never would have agreed to that if I’d known before booking. After several exchanges with the owner and four calls of over an hour each with Booking.com agents, neither would cancel the booking. The owner offered rooms with private bathrooms at extra cost, but that would have meant moving four times during our 13-day stay. In the end, we managed to reduce it to one move, into a much smaller room with a queen size bed. My husband is 2 meters tall and his feet stuck out of the bed. We also had cockroaches visiting at night. Three other couples from France whose stays overlapped with ours also hadn’t known about the shared bathroom. They found the youth-hostel type of experience appalling at their age, over 50. Some descriptive details have been left out. A hotel room is cheaper and more comfortable. The stress of staying in STARBAL Villa is hard to describe, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

The calm around the villa was a big plus. It’s near the center of Port-Mahon and also really close to Es Castelle, a beautiful night city, but not right in town. Getting into the city was pleasant, about 12 minutes by bike or 25-30 minutes on foot. My boyfriend and I booked Starbal Villa in September for our first couple vacation, and it was perfect for couples. Breakfast lived up to what the previous review said, with tasty classics and local food. The pool was great for a swim in the morning or at night. Diego, his mother and Carmen were simply adorable. They answered all our questions and took the time to give us concrete recommendations about how and when to get to places and events. They made the place feel alive, charming and warm. I fully recommend it for a trip in Menorca!

There’s a nice garden and a summer outdoor kitchen with a grill, and all guests can use the pool. Great breakfasts are included. The rooms are big, with mega-comfy beds and heaters, though there are no TVs in the rooms. The staff are nice, including the cat who lives there. We stayed three days, but I’d recommend it for a week or longer too. It’s really close to the airport.
