Borda del Vinyer

The outdoor area was a hit with our five children, who spent ages playing football in the garden. We came as a group of 12 for the weekend and found the house had everything we needed. It’s in a great spot, and the peaceful surroundings let us properly switch off. Laura was lovely and always checking that we had what we needed. We didn’t meet her sister Mariona, but she messaged to see if everything was okay. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend the place. We’d come back.

Sort and the surrounding area are well placed for skiing and sightseeing, which was the upside of our Christmas stay. We were 14, though, and the house didn’t feel comfortable for a group that size. The dining table and kitchen were short on space, and there wasn’t enough room in the dining area for everyone. There are only three full bathrooms. One serves the whole upstairs, so five adults and four children had to share it. The bathroom locks were broken, which meant we couldn’t get much privacy. There’s a garage under the house, but we weren’t allowed to use the inside stairs from it. We had to carry our suitcases, groceries, and especially the heavy bags of firewood all the way around and upstairs. It made no sense. The heating also goes off after 10 pm unless you ask, so make sure the rooms are warm beforehand or you may be cold overnight. We had some other difficulties too, but those were bad luck and not the house’s fault. One thing to be aware of: don’t stain the carpet, as they’ll charge you 80 euros for a replacement. For a place that hosts lots of people and children, having such delicate carpets seems unwise.

The house is so large that I left without even seeing a few of the rooms. It’s beautiful, with loads of outdoor space, and the woman who rented it to us was kind and attentive. Sort is very close, and there are countless lovely places to explore nearby, including Aigüestortes National Park. We had a wonderful time.

We’d happily do it again. The owner was friendly and attentive throughout, and the house is close to Sort while still being quiet. It’s spacious, with a nice terrace and garden that worked well for the children. A good place for a few days with family or friends.
