Hotel Roch

Getting to the hotel is a lovely little adventure through a picturesque village of limestone houses. The owner was very friendly, and I really enjoyed meeting him. There’s an old-style, quiet bar downstairs. My room was good, the place was clean, and breakfast was good and filling. Don’t expect luxury, though. Parking the car was the one downside, as it wasn’t easy. I’d love to come back.

The village is beautiful, and the surrounding mountains and lakes are lovely. It’s dog-friendly, too. We arrived around 1 a.m. one night and couldn’t find parking, but two local girls saw us struggling and let us park on their private property. We stayed four nights and would absolutely come back. The rooms are great and sparkling clean, and breakfast was super nice, with local produce. The dinner menu is mostly the same each night, but they know their dishes and make them really well. We tried something different each evening, and every dish was very good. For €20, we got a starter, main, dessert, wine, bread, and pretty much anything else we could ask for, plus excellent service. That’s a really good deal. The owner is something else: so friendly and helpful, remembers your order by the second day, and speaks great English. This place is definitely special.

This is a really lovely hotel for someone arriving cold and tired. I was travelling alone on a motorcycle, and Xavi took care of everything when I arrived, including parking for the bike. My room was very good and already warm when I went in. Dinner was great, the place was quiet, and breakfast was very good. You don’t find a hotel like this every day. I highly recommend it. Great.

The four of us tried a lot of dishes from the varied menu, and they were all good. Even the ham pancake we accidentally ordered as dessert in a classic language mix-up was nice. Some dishes had an extra local touch, and the service was helpful and friendly. The dogs and the many kids on the steps were friendly too. It’s well worth the trip up-country from Sort or Rialp, where the food options generally feel less inspired. We had a very good evening meal in a welcoming setting.
