Hostel Ohana Tarifa

The clean beds were nicely made, and the guests were really nice. Some were kite surfers who had originally planned to stay at Kite Hostel Tarifa, which is closed for the winter. The people are what make this hostel a good experience. I had a top bunk that was very high and had no guard rail, so I was genuinely worried about falling during the night. For a hostel in Tarifa, I expected a proper place to store kite gear and hang wetsuits, but the staff cleaning room was used for that instead. The common area is tiny, with the kitchen in the same room. There are only two hot plates, so you have to queue to make dinner. In the evening, a rather grumpy staff member comes to clean and tells everyone to be quiet from 10 PM. People want to socialize, but there’s just no space for it. It’s clean, with friendly guests, but the facilities and social areas need a lot of improvement, especially for 20€/night, which is too much.

The hostel has everything it needs, but the cold colours give it a rather chilly feel. It’s only social sometimes, and you have to be lucky to meet people. I felt a little lonely there, to be honest, since there were a lot of older groups travelling while I was there. It was just too expensive for the vibe it gives off.

The rooms were comfortable and clean, and the staff were kind and helpful. Great spot, too, and the price felt excellent for what you get.

I spent nearly three weeks here and came away with no real complaints. The kitchen meant I could cook most of my meals, and everything from the rooms to the bathrooms stayed super clean. I also met some lovely people, and it was easy to head out for sunset or grab something to eat because of the location. The AC sometimes wasn't switched on at night, but they dealt with that.
