We only stopped in to look around, and the bartender greeted us so warmly. They were really friendly and gave us a couple of recommendations. So nice.

The 16th century building has loads of charm, and it's right in the centre. It was a good-value place to sleep, though I'd only stay one night. It could use some cosmetic work and perhaps rewiring to modern standards. The internet was unreliable, and the heating only came on at 8 if you asked. None of that stopped us enjoying Teruel, but it did make the stay memorable.

The tavern downstairs was a real highlight, with locals sharing food and putting the world to rights. The old building has plenty of character, and the rooms were decorated in a quirky but tasteful way. What a great find.

The room was quiet at night, and the location made it easy to walk to the historic buildings and around the old centre. But the room wasn't well equipped, even for 40 euro per night. The boiler was too small for one normal short shower, tiles were loose and broken, the sink had only a cold tap, and the curtains were dirty and damaged. The furniture was very uncomfortable, the balcony door wouldn't close properly, and reception was often unattended. Teruel itself is well worth visiting for its history, and the location is perfect for exploring on foot.

Carlos behind the bar is the best. I'm from the UK and can order beer in Spanish, though I know a little more French, so that's how we chat. He keeps giving me tapas and is proud of the local produce. The older regulars talk to me in Spanish, and I haven't a clue what they're saying, but they bring me fresh vegetables from their gardens to enjoy as I pass through, especially tomatoes. Great bar.
