Hotel Cigarral El Bosque

The entrance is pretty tight, so a large car could have trouble getting in. Inside, though, the hotel was clean and well kept despite its age, with cozy bedding and secure windows that made for a comfortable stay. The views are stunning, especially for stargazing and seeing Toledo at night.

This place may have worn its five stars proudly when it first opened, but it’s a little road-worn and tired now. To me, that just adds to the charm. The rooms are large and comfortable, made for living in rather than simply sleeping, and the staff are friendly. The location is perfect, with the historic downtown an easy walk away. If you’re feeling lazy, lame or gloriously hungover, a Bolt ride there is cheap, fast and painless. I brought my own coffee maker to make peace with the morning gods. Even without it, this would be an ideal stop on a motorcycle trip. It was absolutely worth staying here.

There are lots of cats around, especially at night, and the hotel is pet friendly. The pool is nice, the area is lovely and the views over Toledo are great. Breakfast has a generous selection, and the restaurant looks good too, judging by the crowd. It’s a great place, and I’m sure I’ll stay again next time.

The grounds were clean, the pool area was nice, and the hotel is about a 10 minute walk from a few bars and restaurants. There was parking, though it was fully exposed to the sun. We stayed three nights in room 317. The room was basic but functional. The air con worked, though it was quite noisy, and there was no tea or coffee setup. Black mold lined the shower tiles. Hot water also ran out in the morning, so showers between 8:30 and 10 were cold. We had breakfast included in the room price, but it was disappointing. Everything was self service, the coffee came from a machine, and there wasn’t enough seating. At €19 if paid on the day, it’s far too expensive for what’s on offer. The pool bar was closed in August, which I didn’t understand. A few changes could make this a lovely place.
