Hotel Real de Toledo

The room was clean, everything worked, and the bathroom was fine too. There was plenty of cupboard space and the bed was very comfortable. The location was ideal for walking around Toledo, with restaurants, shops and easy transport nearby. Still, I’d think twice about coming back because of the noise and the check-in experience. The younger man at reception was friendly and helpful every time we spoke. The older man who checked us in was rude, and gave the impression he didn’t want us there, or didn’t want to be there himself. He was the only rude person we met in Toledo. I feel for the younger colleague, who deserved a better service score, while the older man deserved less. Our room was right beside the stairs, so footsteps kept us awake until late. By the time the noise died down, changing rooms would have been too inconvenient. That spot should be storage, not a hotel room.

We ate at the restaurant on the corner of the hotel building. I assume it belongs to the hotel, since there wasn’t a name over it. For €12.50, the menu del dia included a starter, main and dessert or coffee. They also brought bread and a half-litre carafe of wine for two. The dishes were simple but tasty, and it was good value.

I stayed from May 19th to May 23rd, 2024, and the room on the fourth floor was noisy throughout. The corridor lights were always off, which was inconvenient. The hotel said the rooms had air conditioning, but mine didn’t, and the heat kept me from sleeping. There were stains on both the bed and towels, and they smelled bad. I can’t say whether there were bed bugs, but I felt itchy whenever I slept in the bed and noticed bites all over my body.

The hotel itself was excellent for a family trip with kids. Our room was clean and comfortable. I wouldn’t judge the hotel by its breakfast, though: the food was undercooked and not good. The coffee was nice, and the fresh-squeezed orange juice was excellent if you pay for that option. I’d skip eating there, but the hotel is great. 👌
