Hotel Medina de Toledo

The room had a nice view, and we found the staff kind and friendly. This is a small, quaint hotel in a great spot for seeing Toledo. Our room was clean and the beds were comfortable, though the room itself was rather small. Breakfast was adequate, and we could hear noise from other rooms. It would be handy to have a kettle in the room or at the terrace bar so guests can make tea or coffee when they arrive. The reception staff kindly brought us cups of hot water, so we made our own tea.

We enjoyed the friendly staff, the small cafeteria's Euro-breakfast, and the views of the new town from the rooms and cafeteria. The hotel is cozy and close to an entrance to the escalators, about halfway up to the old town. Rooms are small, but the beds were comfortable. Our low rating comes from a strong sewage smell coming from the bathroom. Keeping the door shut barely contained it. I mentioned it to staff, who said they'd investigate, but all they did was refill the electric air freshener with a stronger scent. That left the sewage smell perfumed, rather than fixed. It could be a plumbing ventilation problem, though I can't be sure. If so, it might affect the rooms above and below ours too. Our room number ended in 01 at the end of the hall, so I'd avoid those rooms if you decide to stay.

The hotel's terrace has a lovely view of the city, and the location makes exploring easy. Escalators nearby, right by a parking lot, take you just steps from the main square in the historic center. Reception gave us a detailed map, which we really appreciated. We booked two double rooms. They were comfortable, clean and nicely decorated, though simple and modest in size. The staff were friendly and professional. Our continental breakfast had a bit of everything, including juice, coffee, tea, toast, pastries, yogurt and fruit. It was a filling start before heading up into the city. Great stay, I'd recommend it.

The staff made the hotel feel like a small family, including the women who cleaned the rooms. My husband was in Toledo for a meeting in the old town, just a three-minute walk from the escalators near the hotel. I felt comfortable returning on my own late at night, around 11:30 pm. Our room wasn't huge, but it was bigger than most hotel rooms in a historic town. The bathroom was large, clean and in good working order. Breakfast was a tasty, substantial continental spread, and the coffee was hot. After eating, I could explore the old town, get a sandwich, and come back to eat on the patio. The hotel only serves breakfast, but there's a small bar and some snacks for guests in the afternoon and evening. If I'm back in Toledo, I'd stay here again.
