The heat was awful, and there was no shade. But what really ruined the stay was what happened during my brother-in-law’s 50th birthday party. At 10 pm, the owner came in through a door we hadn’t been given access to, interrupted us, and threatened to call the police over the music. We’d been respectful, and the volume wasn’t excessive. When we asked why she’d entered, she couldn’t explain it. We made her leave because we’d paid for the house and she had no right to walk into our private party. There were other things that felt suspicious from the start. My sister-in-law had paid €469 for one night, and the owner asked for another €400 in cash as a deposit. She also demanded everyone’s IDs on arrival and said we had to be out by noon the next day. She’d already told us music wasn’t allowed, even though she knew we were celebrating. I wouldn’t recommend this place to groups of friends or family. The owner wasn’t trustworthy, and the experience was terrible.

The place is peaceful, and the rooms and facilities are spotless and well cared for. We were treated kindly, in a warm but discreet, family-style way.

There are handy options for groups, too: you can rent the pool and the dining room next to it, then use the barbecue and spend a few hours together. The house has a range of amenities for families, and the staff are welcoming. It all seems set up to make a stay easy.

There’s loads of room, and the garden with its pool is spectacular and very well kept. The house is fully equipped, with four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and kitchens both upstairs and downstairs. There’s also a room for celebrations, board games for all ages, badminton in the garden, automatic watering, and an entrance at street level.

In El Tarròs, this charming rural stay is in the town best known as the birthplace of Lluís Companys, president of the Generalitat of Catalonia from 1934 to 1940. Antoni Boleda created a monument in his honor, and a plaque was unveiled at Companys’s birthplace in 1982 to mark the first centenary of the Catalan politician’s birth.
