Hotel Avenida

The next morning, staff accused us of making an illegal booking because we had children and were supposedly in the "wrong room" for our group size. Poor communication left us unsure which room was meant for which members of our party. With properly trained staff, this could have been handled much better. We only wanted to sleep and continue our trip, and we weren't asking for much. Instead, we were treated extremely rudely. The previous night, we arrived late and staff demanded to keep our passports, without taking a photo or copy, because they couldn't enter the details in the system. When we refused, untrained staff got upset and threw our belongings back at us on the counter. We said we'd leave a negative review, and then their attitude changed and they let us stay with our passports. That unprofessional behaviour was a red flag to me. I wouldn't recommend this place. They've lost customers and any chance of future visits from us. Come during normal hours if you want proper staffing, and be aware.

There used to be helpful people working here, but now you'll only see cleaning ladies during the day. There's no bar or breakfast, and even the outdoor tables and chairs have been removed. The hotel has been disappointing since it was bought by a group. My girlfriend and I had stayed here from time to time for several years, but the new virtual setup doesn't work properly. There's no reception or anyone to ask for help or information. We had to choose an arrival time when booking, but no one was there when we arrived at 11pm, two hours after the 9pm time we gave. We had to chat with the group, wait several minutes, and then they sent a payment link. Only after that could we get into the building and our room, after about fifteen minutes outside. Why not send the link when booking? After checkout at 11am, we couldn't leave our suitcases to enjoy the city, and our entry code stopped working, so we couldn't get back into the hotel either. Booking was also a struggle. Their website wouldn't complete the reservation after I entered payment details. We tried four cards from different banks, several devices, and different internet connections over several hours, and also emailed them that evening. The next day they told us to use the official site, which we'd already done, then suggested it might be our bank. Since we wanted to go the following day, we tried again and it finally worked, but the price was higher. We told the hotel about the problem and they seemed not to care. I'm really disappointed with the stay.

We had a lovely room with a roof terrace and a great view. The staff were friendly and accommodating, the breakfast buffet was plentiful and very nice, and the room was clean with brilliant air con. My only complaint is that the bed felt a bit small, though that's because we're used to a bigger one. We'd definitely stay again.

The location was excellent, and we found the front desk staff friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Breakfast had a good selection, and the hotel and room were exceptionally clean and well run. We spent four nights at the Avenida Hotel and thoroughly enjoyed it. The room was small but very nice, and we especially liked having a balcony. We'd definitely return.
