I’m usually wary of hotel restaurants, but this one tucked around the corner from the Plaza Mayor in this sleepy Navarenne town is a real exception. The elegant dark wood and all the light make a lovely setting for the kitchen’s delicious, vegetable-focused food, made with local produce that Tudela is rightly known for. There were some incredible dishes: baby zucchini carpaccio picked that morning with Asturian galmesan, a coca of thinly shaved Caesar's mushrooms with an eg yolk reduction, seared foie gras, borage stems with puffed pork rinds, and excellent ternasco de Aragon lamb with potato and jus. A wonderful find I’d like to revisit as the seasons change.

The food is good, though it may not suit Asian tastes very well. In particular, their seafood is cooked with clamshell and snails, which aren’t well accepted in Asian dishes. The waiters are wonderful, but their English may be about as limited as your Spanish if you don’t speak several languages, so bring Google Translate. It’s also a bit more expensive than the other restaurants around Tudela Square.

The hotel itself is nice, but they charge 50% extra for checking out one hour late. I needed the extra time because the Tudela Medio Maraton race started two hours before checkout. I’d come to Tudela to take part, and chose this hotel because the organizer recommended it.

A good breakfast and menu, with nice rooms at this excellent hostal near the main square. There’s no lift.
