Camping El Roble

The pitches are level and spacious, with enough shade, and the modern toilet block has wet rooms throughout. Dogs and barbecues are welcome, which matters to us, and despite the nearby road the hillside site is peaceful and has a lovely view. We arrived on a typically hot day in mid-June, towing our caravan up a dirt track, and were pleasantly surprised by the warm, prompt welcome and quick tour of the facilities and pitches. There's no pool at present, but the enthusiastic family has big plans for more accommodation and two large pools. It's a charming site, and I hope their plans go well.

The yurt was lovely inside, with nice decor and plenty of sockets, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The boys enjoyed the trampoline, and the showers, toilets and cooking area were okay. But the site is packed with yurts, tepees, tents and bungalows, with no space or privacy. We were about five metres from a chemical toilet, and traffic on the road will wake you at seven if you don't have earplugs. One loud group can spoil it for everyone, and there was no shade at all. That's common at many campsites, but paying for "glamping" makes you expect a little more.

The facilities are modern and excellent, with nice hot showers. One odd thing: when I was the only person in there, the lights would switch off while I was showering. The owner gave us a pleasant, helpful welcome and can share walking and cycling information. Pitches are clearly marked and a good size, with gravel and some shade. The campsite sits above the road, which is busier than you'd expect.

We had such a laugh with other guests around the barbecue area, which is a great idea. The site is ideal for cycling and walks, with large plots and very friendly, helpful staff. The toilet and shower block is the cleanest and most modern I've used. I'll definitely come back.
