Hostal El Rincón

We booked El Rincon on the road while driving through Spain, just hours before arrival, as with our other hotels. We got there around midnight after driving from Barcelona, but nobody opened the door. After ten minutes of knocking, a man who was probably security let us in. He didn’t speak English, but was friendly and gave us a room key in exchange for our passports. The room was awful: worn furniture, torn bedclothes, missing wardrobe doors, and window shutters that were hard to close. There was no AC, just a kind of ventilation hole above the door leading to the shared hallway. We could hear every snore and fart from the neighbors through it. The next morning we went for a walk, and when we returned that evening, our belongings were gone. At reception, the man acted as if he didn’t understand. After about ten minutes of explaining, he got it and made a few calls, but nothing came of them. Later he said a “cleaning lady” thought we had checked out and had thrown our things away. He offered no apology or compensation. My wife lost a brand-new skirt she’d just bought, a plaid, and some cosmetics. I lost a T-shirt and a few small things. Luckily I’d put my most precious belongings in the car that morning, or they’d have been gone too.

A budget-friendly hostel with good facilities and a low price. It’s in Valencia, quite close to the city’s main landmarks, and could work well for a night if you’re traveling on a budget.

The most horrible hostel I’ve ever visited. The room looked awful, very old, and the sheets were dirty. We left straight away because we couldn’t imagine staying the night.

I can’t give zero stars, so one it is. We checked in at 11 at night and checked out at 3 the same night. There were insects in the room, no fans despite the advertised air conditioning, and no power outlets. There are much better places in the same area. @rincon mgmt: Please use the money you deducted for the first night to put a fan in the room.
