We liked the location, and the colors and furnishings make the place look lovely. The practical side was disappointing, though. The overhead rain shower didn't work, while the small handheld one was fine. We were told the overhead fitting was plastic and had been broken by a guest a few weeks earlier. Seems like sturdier fittings would make sense. The shower cubicle leaked and had rust at the base. The toilet was unreliable too, sometimes it seemed to run out of water and wouldn't flush. They said a plumber had checked it and found that the tank filled slowly, but nothing had been done to fix it. Breakfast was awkward for us each day. We first met the receptionist, who also hosted breakfast, when we arrived and reception wasn't staffed. She wasn't happy that we hadn't mentioned beforehand that neither of us ate meat and one of us also avoided eggs. I hadn't thought to flag it since breakfast usually has options, and it hadn't been a problem elsewhere. They did try to feed us well, but dishes came out in a random order, so we never knew whether they were finished serving. A lot of effort clearly went into the decor, but with these issues, I didn't feel we got great value for the money.

Africa made our five-night stay at L’Esplai during a trip to Spain really special. She's such a thoughtful, kind host and proud of her city, and she took the time to sit with us and share all sorts of recommendations. The rooms were very clean, a good size, and had comfortable beds. Breakfast was delicious, with something fresh and different each day. I couldn't even get it to stay on the plate long enough for a photo. The location is hard to beat, just steps from Plaza de la Reina. We'd love to be back soon.

The place was great, and Africá at reception was wonderful. The location is perfect. If you book directly with them, breakfast comes with the same price as booking through a third-party app, so I'd go that route.

Africa's homemade breakfast alone would make me book here again. The toast was just right, the orange juice freshly squeezed, the bacon and eggs not greasy, and the yogurt came with fresh mango and oats. The location is central, with most tourist spots a 5-15 minute walk away. Plaza Reina and Valencia Cathedral are less than five minutes on foot, and there are restaurants everywhere. That central spot does mean street noise, so light sleepers may want earplugs. My one regret is there's no washer or dryer, which could be an issue on a longer stay or if you pack light.

The people running L’Esplai València were gracious and accommodating. I had a big room with an old-world feel and a small balcony. The decor and atmosphere felt rejuvenating and took me somewhere else. The bed was a little firm, but the room's character and great location made this a lovely place to stay in Valencia.
