Urban Youth Hostel

It didn’t feel social at all, and it was a long way from both the old town and the beach. In September, it also didn’t seem like a youth hostel, the average age was probably 35. Some facilities weren’t open, and lots of things around the property were broken. The staff were nice, but they kept interrupting the flow of the hostel. The rooms themselves were very nice.

We’re two 18-year-old girls interrailing together, and we were put in a room with four middle-aged men. One kept forcefully offering my friend food. He was creepy and disgusting, and the men made us feel so unsafe and creeped out that we stayed out until morning. You shouldn’t put two young girls in a room with men without checking with them. We’d never felt this unsafe before.

I travel often and rarely run into anything like this. I booked one night in December, but the hostel was in poor condition and very dirty. The bathroom looked neglected, and a strong chemical fragrance filled the place. I was put in a room with two foreign men who kept trying to talk to me after I’d made it clear I didn’t want to. There was no one else on the whole floor, and I didn’t feel safe or comfortable, so I moved to another hostel. Reception refused to take responsibility or acknowledge what happened, and they wouldn’t refund me. A terrible experience.

The room was clean and the sheets looked okay, all white. The location is fairly good for seeing things, but be careful: there was no working fridge, no working AC, and no Wi-Fi in the apartment. The TV barely worked either. The receptionist didn’t speak English and wasn’t friendly.
