Hotel Silken Axis Vigo

The final cost caught us off guard. We paid an extra 80 euros for two days, including 15 for parking each day, which wasn't public parking, and 25 per day for our small dog. I read the Booking app rules carefully and didn't see either charge mentioned. The room needs renovation and has old furniture. The hotel doesn't deserve four stars, and the prices aren't fair. If I'd known the real total, I'd have picked another hotel without its own parking and paid for public parking instead. There are nicer places in Vigo without parking that don't charge for dogs.

The hotel is right in the city, with an easy walk to the port, malls and cafes. It was very clean and suited our needs, with nicely sized rooms and good amenities. Breakfast was inexpensive at €10 per person, and all the staff were friendly and helpful with our requests, especially the lady in the food area and the barman. We'd stay again. Brilliant value for money, and thanks to all the staff at Axis Vigo. My only negative was that the rooms had no hair dryer or iron. It would've been nice if the rooftop bar had been open, as the weather was decent in late April.

Marina at reception was always smiling and very helpful, and the staff did their best to make our stay comfortable. That made the hotel more bearable, and I'd put it at about 3*. The rooms are dated and poorly lit, and what they offered varied. Mine had a shower head over the bath, while my mate's had a rainfall shower and steam room. I didn't have the things you'd expect, like a kettle, tea or coffee. There was a minibar, but it wasn't very cold, though the prices were fair.

The location is the hotel's best feature, right in the centre on a fairly quiet road. It's near the bus station and old historic city, and a 10-15 minute walk from the promenade. We were glad to join our family on their business trip and come to Vigo. The hotel was excellent value, with attractive modern decor and a large room. It had a sliding door wardrobe, blackout curtains and bronze nets, plus a shower over the bath and an excellent modern bathroom. Maid service was top quality. The rooms were very quiet, so the windows must be good. Staff were very helpful, and breakfast was plentiful with a good choice. Cool mineral water was available. I'd suggest exploring the side streets for quiet routes to the shops and sights. It's about two hours from Porto and around an hour and 30 minutes from Santiago.
