The portions are generous, the food is simple but really tasty, and a glass of cider always goes down well. We come whenever we’re in the area and have stayed overnight a few times. The hostel itself feels a bit neglected. It belongs to the provincial council and is up for auction, so they don’t invest in the facilities. Even so, the manager gives excellent service and works around your needs and schedule.

The service was awful, and the menu only came with water or wine with soda, no soft drinks. The dessert yogurts were expired. When we pointed that out, they brought more from a box that wasn’t even refrigerated. The first course was fabada, which was passable, but the second was really bad: the potatoes were practically plastic, not just frozen, and the grilled loins tasted like fish. The kind of place that stays open because of where it is.

On June 28th, around 10 a.m., I stopped for a 15-minute break with about 30 kids who were at a basketball tournament. As we were about to go in for a drink, the guy locked the door and told us it was closed. A few minutes later, a car pulled up with four people, and he opened the door and let them in. I personally will never stop there again.

I haven’t stayed at the hostel, but the room photos look reassuring. And why do I have to go to the snow with my class for three days in a month?

Thanks to the hostel for letting us cancel our booking without a fee when we gave 48 hours’ notice. We hope we can visit again soon.
