La Posada Del Canal

La Posada del Canal was a wonderful countryside escape. I felt completely at home thanks to the lovely service and family atmosphere, and the dinner was great. On my last morning, they even drove me to nearby castle ruins and took photos with me. It's a perfect spot for biking, hiking, or simply getting away. About that recent one-star review, I don't know what the person is talking about. Sure, the inn is a bit old and some floorboards creak, but it wasn't a problem for me. The WiFi worked perfectly, though its range is limited. The listing clearly says “Villanueva de San Mancio,” a village in the province of Valladolid, so don't get angry if you didn't check the geography first. Breakfast was completely normal for Spain, so don't expect bacon and eggs. I'm not a native Spanish speaker, and the owners were easy for me to understand. I seriously doubt the reviewer's friend speaks “native Spanish” if they couldn't understand them. Calling the place a scam is insulting to the wonderful owners, who did everything they could to make my stay great. If you want a rural, family-run place to get away from everything, this is perfect.

The house was clean, and the elderly hostess was friendly, though a bit odd and very difficult to understand, even for my traveling companion, who speaks native Spanish. But that's about the only positive I can give it. The internet didn't work at all, and she didn't know how to fix it. The house is so old that the floorboards make a racket whenever anyone walks around. I woke up when another guest went to the bathroom at 4am. And the breakfast was insulting. It was just stale, store bought cookies, not even a known brand. Look at the pantry photo, where the hostess put back what hadn't been eaten. I was searching for a hotel in Valladolid, where most places were booked, and this one appeared in the listings there and had good ratings. In reality it's nowhere near Valladolid, but a 40 minute drive away. I only realized that after starting the drive, once the cancellation date had passed. The reviews had led me to expect a quaint countryside place where I could relax, but there was very little charm. It's in a poor, mostly abandoned town with nothing appealing about it. BEWARE, this place isn't what it seems. Don't be fooled. STAY VERY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!
