The setting is beautiful and wonderfully quiet, so it’s ideal if peace is what you’re after. It is a little out of the way, though, and you need a car to get around, which is why I’d give the location three stars. There were three of us, and the boat was roomier than the photos suggest. It has a fridge, cutlery, frying pan and pots, a microwave with grill, ceramic hob, bathroom, separate shower with hot water, heating, air conditioning, and a TV.

We slept beautifully, with the fish sounds soothing us and the estuary gently rocking the boat almost imperceptibly. The port area is peaceful, well lit, and under video surveillance. We spent four nights in this charming boat hotel in the marshlands of Asturias, where the Villaviciosa estuary meets the sea. It suits two or three people, with three cabins, two of them convertible to sofas, plus a kitchen, bathroom, and separate shower. There’s lots of storage, including two wardrobes and drawers beneath the sofas. The kitchen has a microwave, two ceramic hobs, and all the utensils needed for cooking and serving. Cleaning products, towels, clean sheets, blankets, and toiletries are provided. There’s also heating, air conditioning, two windows, and hot water.

We only booked one night, and that felt too short because you’ll want to stay longer. The boat is charming, neatly arranged, and has everything you could need. It was spotless, and Carlos was an outstanding host, a full 10 out of 10. The location is completely peaceful.

The boat was beautiful, clean, and full of character, with incredible views of the estuary. We spent five days there and can’t wait to return. Carlos and his sons looked after us so well and made everything easy. There are chances to fish, kayak, or take a boat trip to explore the beautiful, magical Villaviciosa Estuary.
