Pension Casablanca

The staff were friendly and the service was good, and there’s a nice terrace on the second floor. The rooms have air conditioning, though it’s just an on/off switch, and they’ve had some cosmetic renovation. Still, €80 without breakfast feels far too high for a two-star hotel with old rooms and facilities. The furniture is meant to be authentic vintage, but it’s just worn and falling apart. The shower curtains look older than the wall paint, and the towels feel like sandpaper. Breakfast is very basic: coffee, juice, a couple of pieces of toast, yogurt, fruit, three slices of ham and one of cheese. I’m not after luxury, and the room condition and limited food don’t bother me on their own. But for the same price I stayed at a brand-new business hotel near the Fira in Barcelona, with breakfast, a gym and free parking.
