Melka international hotel

The rooms were clean, but the quarters felt cramped. My single room and bathroom were tiny. Food at the restaurant was decent, though a bit expensive, and service was uneven, with some staff not very professional.

The staff were the one good part of my stay: polite, helpful, and doing what they could in a difficult situation. The hotel itself was very disappointing, especially as Ethiopian Airlines sends transit passengers here on long layovers. Its condition is poor and nowhere near what I’d expect from an international airline partner. The rooms were uncomfortable and badly maintained, and the bathrooms were in terrible shape, with basic upkeep and cleanliness seemingly ignored. The food was low quality, with few appealing options. I’m surprised and disappointed Ethiopian Airlines is associated with this property. It hurts the travel experience and the airline’s brand, and I strongly recommend reconsidering the partnership.

I stayed three days. The location around piazza is good and makes it convenient to get around Addis. Service was a bad experience, though. The staff seemed completely bored, and that needs to change. Even ordering a mixed salad took around 45 minutes.

The Wi-Fi was very unstable, and there was an unpleasant smell throughout the hotel. The room service food was generally awful, nothing like what I’d expect from an international hotel, and breakfast was bad too. I’m no chef Ramsey, but in Ethiopia I at least expect decent coffee. The coffee was disastrous, and the breakfast food was expired. Service was the worst part. They overcharged us for a “service bill” with room service, and the waiter practically took the 100 birr from my hands. We specifically asked them not to clean our room because bleach, which this hotel uses as a cleaning product, gives us allergic reactions. They cleaned it anyway. I’m sure they went in to snoop or steal something, because I can’t think of another reason. Pretty sure this is the worst hotel I’ve stayed at in Ethiopia, and I’ve seen a lot.
