Bahir Dar Hotel 2

The manager, Solomon, made this a difficult stay. He wasn't friendly and refused to give us the room for three that we'd booked, saying it wasn't available. He got really angry, which felt unprofessional. After negotiating for about two hours, we gave up, and all three of us slept in a double bed. The hotel itself was clean and served a great breakfast, but the showers were poor, with hardly any water coming out.

The staff did help pick us up at the airport and supported us when the airline didn't deliver our bag, which I appreciated. But the stay was unpleasant and, at 1,000 birr a night, poor value. A better hotel across the street costs less. The room was very dirty, especially the bathroom, and the shower was filthy. The mosquito net had lots of holes, and staff ignored my complaint. There seemed to be Wi-Fi, but it was just for show and never worked. For me this should cost 300 birr at most, and even then I wouldn't recommend it.

The rooms were very clean and the price was great. It's only a block from Tana Lake, though new construction has completely blocked the view. Breakfast is a buffet with an acceptable selection, and there's Wi-Fi. The staff are great, and they provide a shuttle to and from the airport.

My friend and I booked online for one night, but on arrival the manager said there were no rooms and that we'd have to pay more to upgrade. Our room was very dirty, with bugs under the beds, plus the usual mosquitoes that bit us all night. Hot water, which was surprising, wasn't working that day. After breakfast I got sick the next day, apparently because some of the food was in poor condition. The surrounding streets also looked dangerous. I wouldn't recommend this place for white people or women traveling alone.
