The view over town doesn’t make Goha Hotel worth recommending. It’s isolated on a hill at the edge of town, and I had to lock the room door to keep it shut. The water was still ice cold after 15 minutes in the shower, and I couldn’t call reception because the phone was dead. There was no shampoo or shower gel, just a small bar of soap. WiFi only worked in the lobby, and even there it was terrible. It took me about an hour to check in for my next flight. I ate at the hotel restaurant twice. The food wasn’t bad, but the tablecloths and cutlery weren’t clean. The dinner buffet on my first evening was meant to be ready earlier, but didn’t come out until around 10 pm. The same happened with breakfast the next morning, which was supposed to be served 06-10 am but wasn’t ready before 8. Both nights, an event raising money for a church was terribly loud until very late.

Breakfast was poor, and the room was only relatively okay. There was no A/C, the sink was in the room rather than the bathroom, and it got a bit chilly in the evening. The only toiletries were two bars of soap. The hotel sits on a hilltop with a nice city view and an outdoor pool, but it’s fairly far from the center, with a climb of 20+ minutes to reach the top.

The food was good and the service friendly. It’s set on a hill overlooking the city and countryside, and the inviting-looking pool was there, though unfortunately I didn’t stay long enough to enjoy it.

The views over Gonder are amazing, the staff very friendly, and the rooms clean and comfortable. The hotel is worth a stay, though you can still see how badly it was affected by Covid times and the war, both of which kept tourists away. There’s a lot that still needs to be done.

The view of Gonder is beautiful, and the hotel is in a nice spot away from the hustle and dust. Food was good and well prepared, and the staff were quite friendly. WiFi only works in the lobby, hot water was scarce, and there were only 2-3 English TV channels. No shampoo either, haha. With the current conflicts in the region, soldiers are camped right outside my hotel window. It didn’t bother me, but it might bother someone else.
