Breakfast was such a treat, with great coffee, lovely fruit, tasty papaya with lime, and really good bread. As a Brit, I was glad to see peanut butter too. Simon also arranged so much for us, including a spectacular three-day trek in the mountains. It was my first visit to Ethiopia, and Simon made me feel like a queen. He showed us around Gondar and gave us a gentle, enjoyable introduction to his city. I loved being in the Gondar bubble. Thanks to Simon and his amazing team, especially the lovely guy at reception, he’s a star xxx

The garden is lovely, the breakfast was great, and the hospitality was outstanding. The place is peaceful despite being right in the city center. I’d recommend dealing with Simon, who is professional and arranges things safely. A few days trekking in Siemen Moutains is really worthwhile. Thanks, Simon :)

The rooms are clean and nice, and there’s a garden beside the romantic terrace where you can eat with a view. This is a romantic spot in the heart of Gonder, with a wonderful chief manager who also makes a great guide.

Our room wasn’t the one we had booked online, and the rooms were smelly and disgraceful, nowhere near a decent standard. I think the manager’s name is Simon. He was aggressive and had a volcanic temper, lecturing us that “travel is not about staying in fancy beds” and threatening our safety if we tried to go elsewhere. What you see online and what you get in person are worlds apart. I can’t believe this place is still operating.

I had a really good time at Lodge du chateau. It’s centrally located in Gonder, close to the castle, and the rooms are comfortable. Simon was a great host and helped with everything I needed while traveling around Gonder and Ethiopia. Thanks to him and his team.
