Hotel Hetan Majatalo

Our group of 11 spanned three generations, from 7 to 80, and everyone had a lovely time with no problems. It's a warm, cozy guesthouse with friendly, helpful staff, and we really enjoyed our stay. The food was tasty and healthy, with limited choice, but just right for a small guesthouse. The beds weren't the most comfortable, though they weren't the worst either. If we return to Lapland, we'd happily stay here again.

The staff felt cold, and we didn't feel welcome. At checkout, nobody smiled when we thanked them and said goodbye. On Facebook the staff look happy and smiling, but in person they were grumpy, avoided eye contact, and ignored us. It felt like being in their home and in the way, despite the family-hotel impression online. Lunch was rushed, and when our tour ran late we had just 10 minutes to eat. Tea bags were 50cents each and sugar cubes were charged too, though most places include these. The room was freezing until I asked twice for heating, the bathroom heating was broken, and the shower stayed freezing through our 3 night stay, so we couldn't shower. When I raised it, a staff member said showers can run cold when lots of people use them. That's not my fault. A hot shower after a day at -36 should be available. There was no table for the kettle, so we had to boil it on the floor. The pillow by the window felt like an ice cube, luckily we'd brought hot water bottles. The stained shower curtain rested against the toilet, which was pretty grim. It felt like a cheap hostel at premium prices.

My family and I had a lovely three-night stay while visiting Lapland. The room was great, the food fantastic, and the family and staff who run the hotel were lovely.

We had four great nights here in Feb. 2026. Everything was spot on.
