Hilton Helsinki Strand

Trams and buses are only a couple of minutes away, and many main attractions are an easy 15-minute walk. The hotel sits at the edge of central Helsinki, which made it convenient for exploring the city. The property was clean and the team helpful. Our check-in took a short while because a large group arrived just ahead of us. When it was our turn, the receptionist welcomed us and we got to the room quickly. It was spacious, with a lovely view over the frozen river that suited the winter setting. Alongside the usual amenities, there was a stocked minibar. After a cold day out, the ground-floor bar, pool, gym, and saunas were welcome. Qualifying guests can also use the executive lounge during the day. Breakfast downstairs had a wide selection for different tastes, although staff could have cleared tables more efficiently at busy times.

We really enjoyed our time at the Hilton Helsinki Strand, and every part of the stay felt five-star. The staff were wonderful. Laura from food service was especially kind and genuine with both of us. We also want to thank Anastasia at the front desk: she patiently and skillfully helped us sort out a complicated rendezvous. The hotel's policy toward us and our situation was generous and accommodating, and we appreciated it very much.

The view from room 612 was amazing, and the sauna warmed us up before another day in snowy Finland. We arrived late in the evening at the end of Feb 26 and took an Uber from the airport. The directions for app-based rides were very clear. Jessica greeted us warmly at Hilton reception and was professional and respectful throughout. She went out of her way to make sure our stay went smoothly from the first day. At the restaurant, Waldo and Anu were courteous and attentive. They served us the best salmon soup and grilled chicken, and the spicy margaritas made my birthday evening memorable. Helsinki was just the place my husband and I needed. Thank you.

The property itself is underwhelming and quite tired, but the staff are the reason I'd consider coming back. They were generally polite and lovely, and the front desk team were helpful and professional. Darren, I think, was the English man behind the bar. He was funny and engaging while mixing cocktails for some of the ladies in our group. I had hoped to use the pool and spa, but they were out of service. The front office offered vouchers for a nearby sauna, which we appreciated. The buffet felt overpriced. Charging €5 for bottled water also struck me as poor taste; a refillable option would make more sense for a sustainable hotel and city. That price felt offensive. The insulation was poor. On different nights I could hear the neighbors talking and setting things on a glass table. My bathroom door was broken, and I understand the air conditioning could only be turned up by 2 degrees. I was freezing on the first night, folded the duvet over, and slept in my dressing gown. When I called housekeeping for another blanket, the woman who came was very friendly and helpful, and brought a heater too.
