Outdoor Hostel Laajis

Everything is great, but keep a close eye on your belongings. People often have backpacks or purses stolen here, so there really should be a warning sign.

I was very unhappy with the service. They charged us for a ski pass for a child under six, even though the website says children that age are free with an adult ticket. Staff admitted it was their error when I asked, but said they don’t issue refunds. After reading the response, I want to apologize for not stating my children’s ages when I bought the tickets. That was my mistake, and I should have asked for the free admission. They were with me, and it was clear they were 4 and 1.5, not over six. We paid for one adult pass, which I understand qualifies for one child to enter free. Still, I see now that I was at fault for not clearly asking.

The service really stands out. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and so helpful that their generosity made me feel I could trust my stay to be excellent. The facilities are good and right beside the ski and sports centre. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with a fridge, TV, and sink. If I pass through Jyväskylä again, I’ll stay at Laajis.

Laajavuori works well for children and people with only a little downhill skiing experience. You can also climb high into the trees along the track, which is great, or go down on a pulkka. In Jyväskylä, you often see international students here, many experiencing snow for the first time.
