Guesthouse Onnenmyyrä

Onnenmyyrä is a relaxed, uncomplicated place, especially useful as a base for hikes or somewhere temporary to stay when you don't want to heat your own cottage. I've stayed for a short visit, and could see staying longer too. It's a good option if you're tired of regular hotels. The property is a few kilometers off road 24 in Padasjoki. Built after the wars, it started out as a municipal retirement home and has kept nearly all of its original design. It's a little shabby, but clean throughout, and there's a small sauna area built downstairs recently. Breakfast in the dining room is tasty and has plenty of variety. There are rules and instructions posted in all the major languages, though they're hardly needed. The owner seems to enjoy learning languages with a dictionary. The house is often international, even though I've usually been the only guest in the large building. The price is reasonable.

The rooms are clean, and the food is great. The green surroundings have nature trails, with a beach nearby. In summer, there's an open-air theatre next door, and the venue is also available for parties.

A modest but very pleasant place, and the host family runs it like a professional team. The varied breakfast and good food make it suitable for a single night or a group staying through the weekend.
