We stayed in the dam house in this idyllic old area, and the room was surprisingly spacious for two. Even in the heat, we slept well with the window open and thermacell on the windowsill. The sauna and communal kitchen were clean. There’s a sandy beach next to the dam where you can swim, though it could use a bit of tidying to make it cleaner.

We had to leave after just one night, which was a shame. The three of us stayed in Laakso House, a lovely renovated apartment with room for several people, a good bathroom, and everything we needed in the kitchen. It was peaceful and quiet. There’s beautiful nature in the area, with several old ironworks nearby to explore. This was our third stay in Kirjakkala, and we’ve been happy every time. We hope we can come back soon.

We ended up staying here because the hotels in Salo were sold out while we were in town for a sports event. It’s about 20 minutes from Salo, and the accommodation was fine, almost hotel standard. Breakfast was quite good and the price was moderate. The main thing that needs improvement is sanding the footpaths and roads. The 100m walk to breakfast was partly a skate to the finish.
