On the last day, the food didn’t stretch to the whole group. We ate what was left from the day before, mushroom soup and buckwheat porridge, even though lunch was listed in the program. I told the hotel owner, but he neither apologized nor showed regret. The customer service wasn’t what I think it should be.

The location was great, and the grounds were beautiful, but the state of the house was hard to overlook. Renovation had started, with new light switches, bathroom tiles, and painted walls, though it seemed the money and interest had run out. Dead flies hadn’t been swept up or cleaned away. Young women were staying in the house, with their laundry and dirty dishes around; passports left on the table suggested they were connected to the owners. They didn’t make any noise. One review had been posted under the three owners’ names saying “excellent.” When we arrived, nobody was there and all the doors were unlocked. After several calls, someone finally answered one of the numbers. I wondered whether the room door could be locked and how payment would work. A little later, a young Finnish speaker arrived with a big bunch of keys, and we got the room key.
