Design Hotel Levi

For a five-star ski hotel, the room has surprisingly nowhere to put clothes. It's small, with no wardrobe or dresser, so guests are left putting their things on the floor. They give you Missoni towels, but the bathroom is oversized and has two doors instead of providing basic storage. Dinner was frustrating, too. I arrived ten minutes late and was turned away because they couldn't go past closing time, while other guests were still at their table drinking half an hour later. There was barely any food available, and reception staff offered no useful information and didn't seem willing to discuss it.

The hotel is in a great location, and the staff were lovely. My family and I often stay in luxury hotels, though, and for the price this didn't meet our expectations as a five-star place. I had a beautiful corner room with lots of space and two large windows, while the other room we booked was much smaller but still nice and high quality. Cleaners came daily, and we had coffee, fresh towels, a bathrobe, and slippers. Breakfast was also very nice, with a good selection. Storage was a problem. There was only a clothing rail about 50 cm long, enough for jackets, so clothes had to go on the floor. That was manageable in my larger room, but the smaller one had little space to spare. Skiers should know there's no place to warm ski boots. Staff can let you into a small room for skis and poles, but there's no bench for putting boots on. We couldn't reserve a depot at Zero Point, so we had to carry our skis from the lift to the hotel. It's doable, but a long walk over slippery ground in ski boots with heavy skis. We couldn't get a reservation at the fine dining restaurant at any point during our stay, so we had to eat elsewhere. And there wasn't really a spa at the hotel. The booking included access to Levi Water World, but you have to go outside and walk 100-150 meters in the cold, which wasn't pleasant with wet hair. It had only one sauna, which wasn't warm, in a very noisy area. It felt more like a children's pool than somewhere to relax, and it was dirty and in poor shape. If you're after a spa, this isn't the place. It's still a very nice hotel and probably one of the best in Levi, but at that high price I expected more.

Our wedding night at the lovely Design Hotel felt magical, with a sauna in our room and the special atmosphere of Lapland. The staff were quick and helpful, and arriving early was no problem. Thanks especially to Amanda. There was even a pillow menu, and although we got back from the festivities before midnight, we could still get the pillows we wanted. One small thing: we booked breakfast for 10:00 and assumed it would remain on the tables until at least 10:45, even though the information said breakfast ended at 10:15. The tables were empty by 10:20. I know people can eat in 15 minutes, but maybe guests shouldn't be able to book a slot so close to closing. That was minor, though. The night was magical, and we'll be back.
