Omena Hotel Vaasa

The bathroom was good, but the room felt quite old and the ventilation was very loud. The two single beds weren’t very comfortable. Parking was advertised as free, but it actually costs 2€ per hour.

There were cameras and entry cards everywhere, which added extra safety. The place felt a little like a prison cell, but I’d lost my transport and was on foot, short on sleep, and needed some time to get back on my feet.

The room was clean, and after nearly ten years I stayed at the hotel again. It was worth the money.

The room was small, but had a few thoughtful touches, a window, and a good hot shower. All rooms are on floors five and six, which you don't always get at budget hotels in Nordic counties. My only concern was the kettle: it had no automatic safety switch and was still on, very hot and dry, when I arrived. I reported it to management. This is a basic hotel with automatic check-in and self-service access through the lobby of a cinema and office building. I received the door code by email and SMS at 08.00 the morning before my stay. It remained valid until checkout, so arriving at 01.30 from the Umeå ferry wasn't an issue.
