The food was amazing, credit to the chef, and we ended up with $105 in food credit after upgrading. But the check-in and billing were awful. The receptionist first insisted that our paid booking was only a card on file and that we still had to pay, until we showed the invoice. Even then, she asked us to mark "card" or "cash" on a slip, so I wrote "paid." She showed us a rundown room and said it was what we'd booked, then pushed an upgrade. We'd paid for two rooms, and she said the full $165 for the other room could be credited, but showed us a subpar room and insisted we upgrade to reduce the credit amount. In the morning, after breakfast, we asked about our balance before checking out. She said we had $7.95 left. The chef confirmed the breakfast receipt had been provided at 9am, before I asked for the balance, so it should have been included. We ordered an extra dalo and water at 10am based on that amount. At checkout, we were suddenly told we owed another $18. The receptionist said she hadn't seen us have breakfast, though she'd greeted and spoken with us, and claimed she had no breakfast expenses on the account when giving me the balance. The receipt timing doesn't support that. She also refused to refund the water, which hadn't been brought out or opened, saying the order was closed. Our booking was for three people, but only two breakfasts were complimentary, so I had to pay for my own. Be careful with the fees and charges, and with the reception team. They showed no customer service, and the main receptionist was negligent toward hotel guests. If you're looking for somewhere else, Ramada by Wyndham is much closer to the stores.

The staff were friendly, but the rooms were poorly equipped. There were no laundry baskets for dirty clothes, the four-foot tube lights over the headboards were disturbing, the kettle was rusty and dirty, and even the small soap holder felt cheap. The pool was dirty too. A bit of common sense and care for the property would go a long way. Families were also disturbed by drunk people at the pool, who catcalled a female guest. Staff kept serving beer and didn't seem bothered. I felt sorry for that family. A drug dealer was freely walking around doing business, which made the place feel unsafe for families. I hear some good competition is coming to Labasa, and it may be worth checking out.

We stayed as a family for the Sukuna bowl, and the staff were really helpful and friendly. The restaurant offered plenty of choice for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Our rooms felt fairly new, with lots of cabinets and drawers, plus AC. It was only about two minutes from Labasa town. Housekeeping could keep up better with cleaning. There was some mould in the bathroom corners, and the balcony could use a sweep now and then. Other than that, all good.

The location was the only good part of our stay at the Grand Eastern Hotel in Labasa. The room was dirty, with bed bugs in the bed and centipedes crawling around the bathroom. Some staff were rude and didn't seem interested in helping. Two people were checked into the room, but only one breakfast was provided, and when we raised it, nobody offered a solution. The TV didn't work, the room seemed poorly maintained, and other guests drank and partied loudly until 2:30 AM. We couldn't sleep, and staff did nothing to manage the noise or enforce quiet hours. This was one of the worst hotel stays we've had. It didn't meet basic standards for cleanliness, service, or hospitality, and I strongly advise looking elsewhere if comfort, safety, or sleep matters to you.

I stayed with my wife last week and felt really unsafe. There were lots of local Fijian outsiders inside the hotel and bar. The room felt like it was from the 1980s, the TV didn't work, and the bathroom was very small. The hotel needs to be safer for guests. I do not recommend it.
