Mango Bay Resort

We spent four nights in a beachfront bure at Mango Bay. It wasn’t modern, but it had a fridge, bathroom and outdoor shower. Falling asleep to the waves, rain and wildlife outside is something I’ll never forget. This charming place exceeded what I’d heard about Fijian hospitality. It’s quiet, with sunsets that are incredible and food that seems authentic and tasty. A car is recommended because it’s remote, though that’s part of the appeal if you want to disconnect. It feels almost exclusive. Fiji’s a long way from us, which is a shame. I’d return in a heartbeat, maybe for our honeymoon. This place is special and has left a mark.

We loved the peaceful stay in our ocean view bure, with only a few other guests around. The location on the coral coast is beautiful, and the customer service was great. Everyone was kind and helpful. I’d come back to the resort next time I’m in Fiji.

The food was the weak point for me. Tourists want fresh juice and fresh milk, not cordial and UHT, and the eggs were overcooked. The beach side bures are beautifully rustic, and I’d choose one over a garden room. Wi-Fi and TV aren’t really a thing here, which I loved. The pool is large, good for volleyball, and looks out over the ocean. There’s plenty to do in the water, including snorkeling, kayaking and paddle boarding. You can arrange other activities at nearby larger resorts. Special thanks to Villi, Moses and Seta for their wonderful service.

Mango Bay has its charm in its imperfections, its character, its people and its connection to the place. It’s rough around the edges, but that’s part of what makes it special and unique. I can’t wait to return to somewhere that made me feel at home. For the practical details, communication was brilliant, including arranging airport transfers, tours and activities. Sea kayaks and snorkeling gear were available free of charge. The rooms were beautiful, the beds comfortable, and the beach side villas felt like real beachside places. I loved the private outdoor shower, a perfect way to start and end the day under the sun or stars. Staff were attentive, the food menu rotated, and the drinks selection was fantastic, especially the shots. I came here to escape more than just to a beach. My anxious thoughts disappeared, time slowed down, and a sense of peace took over. I had space to listen to nature, feel the sand and grass under my bare feet, and find clarity. Snorkeling around the cove, over coral reefs and through inlets in the cool clear water felt like washing away the weight of the past few months of everyday life. Most of all, I found my breath.
