Guesthouse Hugo

The kitchen and extra dining space have lovely bay views, and my room was warm and practical. The bathroom was huge, with a good-sized shower. Sørvágur itself is peaceful, with nice scenery, and Guesthouse Hugo is close to the airport. There’s a small shop within walking distance, along with Cafe Polastova. The petrol station by the boat docks has another cafe and a mini market, usually open until 8pm. One thing to plan for: the town’s main grocery market is closed on Sundays, which matters if you’re staying more than a day or two. Buses come through several times a day on the way to Torshavn, stopping at the airport and other places along the way, so check the stops for each service. I found the guesthouse clean and quiet, and would recommend it for the views too.

I only needed a bed for one night while waiting for my Wife to arrive, and the ocean view was a lovely surprise. The Guesthouse is a wooden building with a cafe downstairs, and it looks much better in person than on Google. It’s close to the airport, and the family lives below, so a late check-in was no problem. WiFi, kitchen and bed were all top.

We never ran into anyone else there, and getting to the place was easy. Our room was basic and looked out over the Cottages. I was relieved we weren’t in the room with plywood for a wall. The washrooms at the end of the hall were spacious, though we didn’t use the kitchen. My foot was bothering me, and having to climb a flight of stairs to every room was a struggle. Be ready to haul your luggage up.

It’s only about a five-minute walk to the town’s one supermarket, which was handy. The guesthouse is really cosy, and you can cook for yourself in the equipped kitchen. I had lovely mountain views from my room, and found the place comfortable.
