The hosts were kind and so helpful, and there’s plenty nearby to keep you interested. We came with friends from Hungary, and one of them was already asking on our first night how we could stay forever. It’s a rare mix of comfort, quiet, and atmosphere, like staying in a museum with 21st century services. If history and European culture appeal to you, spend a few days here if you can, and book well ahead.
The online photos really don’t show how beautiful this place is. We spent a week there with our extended family, and the rooms were lovely, with manicured gardens and a pool area that was great for relaxing. Martine and Jean Marie were incredibly kind and helpful, and their historical tour of the chateau was fascinating. Opening the door felt like stepping back in time.
Our €3000 deposit still hasn’t been returned. During the 2020 Covid lockdown, when it was illegal to leave the UK and France was also under lockdown, Martine refused to refund the deposit for my mother’s 80th birthday holiday. She made us move the booking to a year we didn’t want and couldn’t manage. She then said she would refund half if she rebooked the two weeks in August ’23. In July this year, a friend asked to book those dates and was told they were already booked, as the emails show. When I asked for our €1500 today and sent that evidence, she emailed saying they weren’t booked. I consider this theft, and solicitors are now involved. DO NOT BOOK CHATEAU D’AGEL!
We were there for my sister’s wedding, and it was fantastic. Such an amazing venue!
